Modern Kowhai Cottage

Wanaka was an incredible place to stay—our Airbnb had everything we needed and made a perfect base for the trip. We had such a memorable time as a family, creating moments we’ll always look back on. The town itself is stunning and still has a peaceful, laid-back feel. There’s so much to see and do, and it’s especially great for biking, both around town and on the surrounding trails. Thank You

Very comfortable and quiet, and well set-up inside. A convenient drive to everywhere we wanted to go.
The only thing was, like others have said, that the house gets very warm in the afternoon sun and needs to run the aircon to cool down. A shade sail out the front would make all the difference in summer.

A lovely stay at this wee batch! Both double bedrooms were a good size, with the bunk room for kids. Well equipped kitchen, nice to have the washing machine and dryer. Walkable to the lake and town. Nice to have the area fully fenced to kids can play outside without a worry.

Beautiful stand alone house in quiet suburb of Wanaka with lovely communal space for meals at home, bbqs or drinks on the deck. Walk to town is doable or a short drive / taxi. Great place to be based to explore the area for a few days and very helpful hosts (for when you leave something behind like we did)

It’s close enough to downtown that we could easily get to restaurants, the lake, or parks, but far enough to be very quiet and serene. The hosts were incredibly helpful and responsive. Cottage was beautiful, comfortable and warm. When we had an issue with the fridge they were very quick to respond and try sort things out. Location is great and you can walk down to the waterfront just down the road. Nothing! It was a lovely place to stay.

Great wee holiday home in good location. Clean, homely and with plenty of games and books for entertainment. Kitchen is well equiped and beds are very comfy. Only tiny downside on hot nights is that the bunk room is very hot for kids to try to sleep in. Would stay here again

Totally excellent Bach that I couldn’t recommend enough. It’s really lovely to stay in an actual home fully equipped with everything you need in the kitchen, bbq etc. The bedrooms are gorgeous and house plenty big for 2x couples. The house is also terrifically well insulated, perfect for winter. Only thing to note is the single bathroom with be a challenge for more than 4 people

Staying here truly felt like a home away from home! While most AirBnBs nowadays are sterile and devoid of personality, this home was clearly loved. It was warm, cozy, and well stocked, and the wood stove was a huge plus! It’s also a super close walk to the waterfront and a park. :)

Lovely warm home with heat pump and fireplace with plenty of wood. Awesome bunks for kids and a cupboard full of games and puzzles. Very clean and tidy with basics like salt, pepper, tea and coffee etc. A view of the mountains from the deck was a bonus.

This house was perfect for us. the kids absolutey loved the built in bunkbed room. I loved the kitchen, loads of room to cook with everything you need. The house is perfect for the cooler months as it stays beautifully warm & the shower has a nice pressure & temp. We loved staying in the modern Lockwood, a slice of Kiwi bach but everything you needed and more! Totally inspired to live simpler and love the layout of the place. So well set up, we couldn’t wait to come home at the end of a day exploring and cosy up by the amazing fireplace, it works a treat! We couldn’t have been cosier during the month of June.
Stylish and comfy home, close to the lake and walkable to town. We’re definitely coming back.

This is a beautiful place to stay, located on a small back section in the Wanaka suburbs. The house is very comfortable, has all of the modern amenties you'd expect for the price. However for $350 per night there were a couple of small issues that I didn't expect to face at that price. We stayed six days and were given three rolls of toilet paper, so very quickly ran out. Had a couple of maintenance people arrive unannounced - one to mow the lawns with mower, weedeater and leaf blower. Hardly peaceful and I'm not sure why this couldn't have been done on a check in/check out day when there are several hours in between. Someone also came to collect the bins to put on the kerb for collection which we weren't told about, it was a surprise to see a stranger on the property. Several lightbulbs weren't working which we told the property manager about, as well as a tap that leaked overnight and they were fixed promptly.

Lovely modern holiday house - small but very comfortable for two couples
Great little modern house which comfortably slept 2 couples in the two double bedrooms. With only one bathroom I think it may have a bit of a stretch if the 4 bunk beds in the third bedroom had also been occupied. Was warm and had everything needed for a comfortable stay and was nice and clean. Communication. Had trouble getting in to the house as there was no communication prior to arrival with a code for the key lock box. Took 3 phone calls to get through to speak to somebody in order to get the code. Was also given 102 as the address not 102a which also caused confusion for my family and another phone call.

Great location an easy walk to the lake and not too far central Wanaka. House has a good vibe and well appointed. House can get very hot on a hot summers day, opening up the sliding doors in each side of the house helps to cool down in the evening. Peaceful and private setting one house back from the road, driveway is level access from the road to a flat section.

winter getaway
A lovely place for our 1 week getaway for some skiing in Wanaka and Queenstown with our adult children. Cozy, with lovely outside spaces, although with the winter weather we didnt get to take advantage of the bifold doors to the outside decks. Perfect for our family of five
Very happy with our stay in September, this new Lockwood house is stylish, has everything you need and is very warm and cosy. With all day sun we hardly needed the fire or heat pump. It was lovely and quiet and there is even a peep of the mountains from two bedrooms and a bit of a view of a large hill from the deck. The master bed was slightly soft for us (but that is just our personal preference!) Would highly recommend this place to others and we would definately book again.

Clean and cozy
Lovely clean and modern house. Heat pump kept the place nice and warm during our winter stay. The only minor difficulty is the driveway which is narrow and sometimes it was abit difficult to pull out onto the road. Highly recommend this place to other visitors.

Close to mountain bike tracks and close to the lake
Wanaka has some excellent mountain biking and this location is great to access the tracks right out the door. Also walking distance to the lake. Nice peek-a-boo view of the mountains from the deck. Don't be put off by what looks like a neighboring house right beside the deck. It's a small Bach on the same property that seems to be no longer used. It wasn't used when we were there but maybe check with property mgr. The property was very private with high fences and greenery between neighbors. Well thought out layout and great kitchen. We stayed in summer but seems like it would be really cozy in winter. Great decks. All round a great space.

The other small bach on the property was the old bach that was there before owners built the new one. It's used as storage for the owner's things - bikes etc.

Our family of four enjoyed a terrific week at this property. It was a great home base from which to explore all of the Wanaka area. The location was ideal for easy 5-minute walks to a lovely swim-friendly lake at Bremner Bay and easy 20-minute walk into the main village of Wanaka for groceries, restaurants, bike rentals, etc. The property was very clean and well appointed. Linens, towels, bedding, beds, and furnishings were all top notch. The decks had wonderful morning, afternoon, and evening sunshine for lounging and BBQing.

I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Wanaka. The short drive out of town (4-5 mins) is totally worth it. The house is full of style, mid century design and comfort. The beds were amazing and super comfortable. The kids enjoyed playing badminton in the garden in between the A frame and the cabin. We cooked on the bbq after stocking up in town. We were going to eat out but it seemed a shame not to stay in at Heather's place. We stayed for 5 nights and did day hikes, while our 3 kids did an outdoor rock climbing course and pontoon jumping in Wanaka lake. Heather left lots of useful tips which we used. The house was very hot when we arrived but it soon cooled down once the doors were open and curtains closed on the side of the house where the sun was coming in. There was also an a/c which in our short stay we used for heating and cooling (changeable Queenstown weather!). We stayed 5 nights and would have loved to have stayed more.

This is the perfect place to stay in Wanaka with a family. Room to spread out. Comfortable beds with great linen. Big kitchen perfect for cooking with a dishwasher and a big fridge.
